The Toronto Summer Music Festival has released an interview with Charles discussing his time as an Art of Song Fellow and his recent Canadian Opera Company Centre Stage Competition win.

During the Canadian Opera Company’s exciting 2015/2016 Season Launch, three new additions to the COC Ensemble Studio were announced.
Charles is very excited to be joining the company in the fall along with fellow tenor Aaron Shepphard and pianist Hyejin Kwon.

Earlier this month, Charles participated in the Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques Galas in Montreal and was the recipient of two significant prizes.
Prix Jeune Espoir Lyrique Canadien – $5000 towards travel costs of an audition tour in Europe and/or Asia.
Prix Lyrique Italien – an engagement with Teatro Comunale di Bologna in the 2015-2016 or 2016-2017 season.

On November 25th, Charles competed in the final round of the COC’s Centre Stage Ensemble Studio Competition Gala and the results are in!
The young, Canadian tenor took home both First Prize and the Audience Choice Prize with his performances of Mozart’s “Dies Bildnis ist Bezaubernd schön” and Donizetti’s “Una furtiva lagrima”.

It’s an exciting time for the young Canadian tenor, Charles Sy. Returning home from Jeunes Ambassadeurs Lyriques in Montréal with a top prize and a scheduled Italian debut, this week is a busy one: opening night of UofT Opera’s H.M.S. Pinafore, and the Canadian Opera Company’s Centre Stage Ensemble Studio Gala Competition!
